Natural Dye Training

Objective
The workshop aimed to build confidence in women artisans and teach them the art of natural dyeing using materials readily available around them. Ten women participants, many of whom had recently learned to weave, were introduced to natural dyeing yarns for the first time. Organized by White Light Design and led by mentor Mrs Jagada Rajappa with co-mentor Pallavi Gaur, the eight-day workshop explored 21 colours extracted from natural ingredients on cotton yarns. The workshop gave the community a new skill set, moving them away from relying on chemically dyed yarns. This newfound knowledge introduced a vibrant and refreshing colour palette to their products.
The following women members participated in the workshop: Ameen, Amritya, Babli, Hirabai, Rakhi, Sucharita, Varsha, Meena, Kanya, and Dhanya.
Visit to Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh

The board members of Bajagloom recently visited Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh, to explore the organizational structures and works of three well-established organisations -- Women Weave, The Rehwa Society and The Handloom School. They observed processes such as bulk dyeing (ETP), artisan payment structures, accounts keeping, inventory management, hand spinning, bulk order management, and exhibition preparation. They also explored local markets and visited shops like Tana Bana to understand product mixes and customer perspectives. In Indore, they visited Fabindia for insights on visual merchandising, branding, storytelling, and marketing, Phoenix Citadel to understand luxury retail, and Mrignayani to learn about government sales outlets. This exposure trip provided invaluable insights to enhance their operations and market strategies.
Nature and Historical walk
Our board members recently embarked on an enriching journey, visiting the majestic Mandu's Palace, the formidable Maheshwar's Fort, and traversing the serene waters of the Narmada River. These historical landmarks and natural wonders are the perfect backdrop for a unique educational experience.
During their travels, the women of Bajagloom were guided on how to keenly observe their environment. They learned to draw inspiration from the intricate details of Mandu's architectural splendour, the historical depth of Maheshwar's fortifications, and the tranquil beauty of Narmada's landscapes. This journey was not just about seeing but understanding how the textures, patterns, and stories of these places could be transformed into exquisite designs.
